I wanted to run for office back in February after a school board meeting that disclosed that they had $38 million moved without required board approval, several millions in interest for loans, several millions in cut budget expenses, and a $13 million dollar payroll spike, causing even more damage. I am running to investigate this crisis and bring it to light. I am also running on the issues of addressing the homeless crisis in Iowa City, lowering tuition costs, and judicial reform.
Addressing the egregious financial issues facing the Iowa City Community School District. Bringing any mismanagement and unapproved financial activity to light. Ensure that the teachers do not suffer financial hardship due to the school boards management. Ensuring the children do not loose their educational future.
Addressing the homeless crisis in Iowa City and statewide. The City council has been completely blind and complacent with the issue in Iowa City, thinking that they can dump all of the homeless individuals in low income neighborhoods. There is no outreach or attempt to improve the situation, rather they just corralled them all into one park. They also decided to put all the shelter houses in one area, so that the people staying there would not want to improve their situation, rather they would instead just be with the lifestyle they know.
Tuition costs at the University of Iowa and the other big universities in Iowa has gone up drastically. At Iowa Alone, it has gone up 25% in the past 5 years, and doubled over the past 15, just for instate alone. They have a large amount of administrative bloat, having a titanic board of supervisors, each being paid an exorbitant amount, while the students have to absorb the costs. We are sacrificing the future of Iowa so that we pay our University administration more.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
